Body Sculpting Myths Debunked
Body sculpting treatments are more popular than ever, but with popularity comes misinformation.
If you’re considering CoolSculpting® or Kybella®, skip the social media myths and unrealistic promises and talk with our team at Ada Aesthetics Medispa instead. We’re happy to explain what types of non-surgical body sculpting we offer and which ones may be right for you.
In the meantime, here are the top five body sculpting myths, debunked.
Myth #1: Body sculpting is the same as weight loss
Fact: Body sculpting isn’t a weight-loss treatment.
CoolSculpting and Kybella target pesky unwanted fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. These treatments refine and contour specific areas. They don’t replace healthy habits or significantly change the number on the scale.
If you’re close to your goal weight but struggle with resistant areas, such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, or under the chin, body sculpting may help you achieve a more defined shape.
Myth #2: The fat comes right back
Fact: When treated properly, the destroyed fat cells are permanently eliminated. The “how” depends on which body sculpting treatment you choose.
CoolSculpting freezes unwanted fat cells. This process is called cryolipolysis. It damages fat cells without harming your skin.
On the other hand, Kybella dissolves fat cells under the chin using deoxycholic acid. Once your body processes and removes those damaged fat cells, they’re gone for good.
However, any remaining fat cells can still expand as weight gain occurs. This is why maintaining a stable weight helps preserve your results.
Myth #3: Results are instant
Fact: Body sculpting works gradually.
After CoolSculpting, your body naturally flushes away frozen fat cells over several weeks. Cryolipolysis can help you achieve a 15-28% reduction in fat in treated areas within four weeks.
With Kybella, your body absorbs the destroyed fat cells over a few weeks. Most Kybella sessions are spaced one month apart for up to six months.
While you won’t walk out of your appointment with final results, you can expect to see visible improvement within a few weeks.
Myth #4: It’s painful and requires downtime
Fact: Both CoolSculpting and Kybella are nonsurgical treatments performed in the office. This means there’s no cutting, no incisions, no sutures, and no tissue removal.
During CoolSculpting, you may feel cold, suction, or tingling initially, but the area typically becomes numb.
Kybella involves a series of small injections under the chin. Mild swelling and tenderness can occur afterward, especially with Kybella, but most people return to normal activities quickly. Even so, this is less painful than submentoplasty and submental liposuction.
These treatments don’t require general anesthesia, incisions, or extended recovery time.
Myth #5: Body sculpting works for everyone
Fact: Not everyone is a candidate.
CoolSculpting works best for people who follow a healthy diet and exercise routine and are at or near their ideal weight. It treats specific areas such as:
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Thighs
- Upper arms
- Bra fat and back fat
- Underneath the buttocks
- Under the chin and jawline
Kybella is specifically designed for moderate-to-severe fullness under the chin. It’s not intended for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, anyone with an infection at the injection site, or those under 18.
The best results happen when expectations are realistic, and your treatment is personalized.
